The Otago Advantage
As the business environment has become more globalised, advanced
qualifications and the reputation of the education institutions
that offer them have increased in importance. The University of
Otago School of Business has all this to offer professionals, managers
and executives.
Building capability

| MBA students |
Market research has shown that graduates from the School of Business' Executive
Programmes are renowned for their high academic level and personal
qualities including managerial competencies. Our programmes build
capability among professionals in the workforce. Importance is placed
on the individual's ability to work in teams, which aim to
balance and complement individual strengths and weaknesses. Group
work promotes the interdisciplinary approach and encourages mutual
support and coaching from group members.
Personal Approach
Class sizes within the graduate programmes are limited to guarantee
individual attention. This nurtures the personal development of
the individual students and reflects our student-centred philosophy.
The emphasis is on experiential learning, case analysis, simulations,
discussions, debate and lectures.
Dynamic curriculum
The curriculum in all our programmes is dynamic and adaptive reflecting
the depth of established research and the breadth of current business
reality. Business case studies and examples are taken from around
the world, as well as from New Zealand, and integrated into papers
to assist learning and the attainment of practical business skills.
Truly international
Our programme suite is world-class and we remain the only New
Zealand business school to receive international recognition. The
Otago MBA was the first New Zealand MBA programme to rank in the
Top MBA Programmes by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) - where
we have remained - and The Financial Times (2001).
The School of Business is a member of several prestigious international
education consortiums including Programme in International Management
(PIM), the Pacific Asia Consortium for International Business Education
and Research (PACIBER), the European Foundation of Management Development
and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
These memberships offer our students better access to study and
conduct research internationally and increase our mix of international
and national teachers. And as an accredited member of the European
Foundation of Management Development, the School of Business and
its graduates have exclusive status internationally.
