Elena Poletti
Lecturer
Elena has been with the department since late 1988, joining under
the then Teaching Fellow programme. She has taught in the first
year papers for majors and for non-specialists, and is a guest lecturer
for courses in Human Nutrition (Dietetics) and Pharmacy. She has
been convener and sole teacher of the 300-level course Accounting
for the Public Sector for a number of years.
Her research interests reflect both the major focus of her teaching
and her earlier work in foreign languages and literature. Current
work includes a reassessment of models for understanding the ways
that accounting is understood and deployed in church or faith communities
and a study of training in budgeting for girls in New Zealand high
schools in the 1950s and 60s. A joint project with staff from Design
Studies that aims to bring archival material from the Hocken Collections
to the notice of the Department's students while giving design students
experience in carrying out a design brief is ongoing.
