Alan Toy

Lecturer

Alan holds the degree of Master of Laws with First Class Honours from Auckland Law School (2001). Alan held a part time teaching position in the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Auckland in 2001, and this was increased to a full time appointment in 2002. Alan lectured COMLAW 203 (Company Law) from 2001 to 2004. He also lectured COMLAW 101 (Law, Commerce and Government) and COMLAW 191 (Legal Environment of Business) during this time.

Alan has been a lecturer at the University of Otago since 2005. At Otago, Alan has taught a wide range of Business Law papers at all three years of the BCom degree. Alan has been a member of the Australasian Law Teachers’ Association (ALTA) since January 2003. Alan has published the following law journal articles:

G Gunasekara and A Toy “Lifting the Veil on Pooling Orders under Section 271 of the Companies Act 1993” (2007) 13 New Zealand Business Law Quarterly 18-33.

Alan has presented conference papers in Hamilton, Melbourne and Port Vila, and attended conferences in Auckland, Christchurch and Vienna. Alan’s research interests are mainly in the areas of Corporate Governance and Equity.
