New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (NZICA) is
the New Zealand body for practising accountants in public practice
and membership is particularly important if you wish to become a
financial accountant or auditor. To meet the academic requirements
of the NZICA, four years of study is required. We recommend that
more able students (ie B average and above) complete an Honours
degree or consider enrolling in the Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce
when they complete their BCom. Other students wishing to gain membership
of NZICA must enrol in a BCom and a Diploma for Graduates. After
completing four years of University study, you will need three years
of practical experience, attend the Professional Accounting School
and pass two professional competency examinations to obtain full
membership. Once you become a member of the NZICA you are entitled
to use the designatory letters CA and describe yourself as a Chartered
Accountant.
