March 27-28, 2009

The Department of Economics at the University of Otago will host the 4th Otago Workshop in International Trade on March 27 and 28, 2009. Keynote speakers will be

Joseph Francois
Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, and

Nicolas Schmitt
Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada.

The workshop is intended to bring together a small group of trade economists, and consequently there will only be plenary sessions. You will find the call for papers on this website in September 2008.

The University of Otago is located in Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand. Dunedin is best reached by airplane, with direct connections from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and (on certain days) Sydney. The end of March is late summer in New Zealand which is usually a very settled and fine weather period in this area. Dunedin is famous for its university and the Otago Peninsula which hosts an albatross colony and is the only place in the world where you can see yellow-eyed penguins. Queenstown, Fiordland, including the world famous Milford Sound, and the lakes and vineyards of Central Otago are reachable within a few hours drive.

If you have any further questions about the workshop, please contact one of the local organizers Frank Stähler (fstaehler@business.otago.ac.nz) or Niven Winchester (nwinchester@business.otago.ac.nz).
