The Department
The Department of Economics offers a comprehensive range of approximately
40 papers at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our students
can complete their degrees either as Commerce or as Arts graduates,
greatly increasing the flexibility of course choices. Economics
combines well with many other subjects so that more and more of
our students are taking advantage of this flexibility to complete
double or joint majors, or double degrees, especially with Finance,
Accountancy, other Business subjects, Law, Mathematics and Statistics.
A multidisciplinary major and Honours programme in Philosophy, Politics
and Economics is also available in the BA. It is also possible to
complete a 'minor' in Economics in the BCom, BA or BCApSc for those
choosing to major in another subject. The Department also offers
postgraduate qualifications at the Diploma (PGDipCom, PGDipArts),
Master's (MCom, MA, MBus) and PhD level.
If you would like to know more about our programmes or any aspect
of the Department's activities, please come and see us. We have
a reputation as a Department for being friendly and approachable,
and we will be very glad to help you.
The Department publishes a magazine about contemporary economic
issues. You can download it from EcoNZ@Otago.
