Summer School

The Summer School provides an opportunity to get a 'head start' or to catch up on required Economics papers in your degree programme. A full list of the Summer School papers are available at: http://www.otago.ac.nz/courses/summer_school/index.html

Both BSNS 104/ECON 111 Principles of Economics 1 and ECON 112 Principles of Economics 2 will be available in the Summer School at the beginning of 2009.

These cover the same syllabus as the full-semester versions of the papers, but at a more intensive pace. BSNS 104/ECON 111 and 112 together provide an introduction to modern economics and the necessary prerequisites for our 200-level economics papers.

BSNS 104/ECON 111 and ECON 112 are both required for a major or a minor in economics in the BA or BCom degree. BSNS 104/ECON 111 is also a requirement for the International Business major in the BCom, for all BCom degrees started after 2004 and for a BTour degree. Both BSNS 104/ECON 111 and ECON 112 are part of the academic component required for admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (ICANZ).

Please note that BSNS 104/ECON 111 is a prerequisite for ECON112. This means that it is not normally possible to study both papers at the same time. However, you may be permitted to take both simultaneously if you have studied economics before (e.g., at high school or in the Foundation Year Programme). Please see Alan King or Chris Haig for further details.
